With a long history in banquets, buffets and catering for some of Maui's finest resorts and restaurants, Big Wave Cafe's culinary team can plan the perfect event for you ~ no event is too small.

Tips for Event Planning
Planning a catered event or banquet is no small thing. Be it for 10 or 100 people, a lot of the same questions apply. Your caterer must understand your wishes for your function. To do this the two of you must spend time together discussing your ideas for your event. Here are a few tips to assist you in your conversations with the caterer:

  • Budget - Let your caterer know your budget up front. This helps your caterer keep the service style and menu items in line with your budget while considering your needs.
  • Guaranteed Numbers - Many caterers will quote prices based upon minimum of guests. If your final count is less, there may be an additional fee.
  • Final Head Count - When is it due? Don't forget to include any meals in addition to your guests. DJ, photographer, wedding
    coordinator.
  • Tax & Gratuities - Are they included in the price? Are there any additional fees that are not included in the quote?
  • Food Preparation - Does your caterer use fresh food and produce? The best meals are prepared from scratch.
  • Service Staff Levels - This may vary dependant upon the type of function you are planning. General rule of thumb is: for
    sit down service, 1 server per 12 guests, for buffet 1 server per 20 guests.
  • Dress Code - How will wait staff be dressed? In company uniform, tuxedo, basic black and white?
  • Glass, China, Silver, Linen - Are these included in price quote? Don't be afraid to ask to see a sample of items to be used. Is there a deposit for equipment.
  • Menus - Will they be provided. Some places will provide with a small printing charge.
  • Leftover Food (Buffet) - Find out the company's policy on leftover food.
